Tile layout with order and cut lists

Tile layouts to the millimetre, ordered in full boxes

TileGenius Pro lays out tiles to the millimetre on any flat surface – floor, wall, shower, kitchen splashback – and turns the layout into a ready order and cut list. A layout that looks good and can actually be built, and that the tiler can work from.

Planned features

This is what we are planning for the first release. Details may still change during development and testing.

Five basic patterns

Straight, running bond (1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 offset), diagonal, herringbone and random-length plank. The random pattern stays the same when regenerated until you ask for a new shuffle.

Smart starting point

A balanced layout on the first click, with three suggestions. Live preview with joint lines: slivers that are too small show in red, and a small counter shows tiles, cuts and waste.

Every cut piece counts

The plugin identifies straight, corner, notch, angled, hole and mitre cuts, warns about pieces that are too small, and reuses offcuts from straight cuts elsewhere.

Ordering in boxes

The order is based on the tiles actually used, with a breakage allowance, rounded up to full boxes. Three waste figures are shown, compared in boxes and in money with the usual “+10%” rule of thumb.

Ancillary materials

Grout from the actual joint length, adhesive, spacers, levelling clips, edge trims, silicone, skirting, primer and liquid waterproofing.

Tile library and bill of materials

European and American standard sizes, CSV import, prices for every item in several currencies, net or gross. The bill of materials shows area, pieces, boxes, waste and cost per tile type.

Later development rounds

  • More patterns – basketweave, pinwheel, hexagon, chevron, Versailles, octagon and dot, mesh-mounted mosaic – and a pattern editor
  • Zones: borders, friezes, shower areas, decorative strips; inserting feature tiles
  • Cut list and setting-out drawing as PDF and as LayOut scenes
  • Quote summary with labour and the number of cuts
  • Tiling cylindrical and conical surfaces

Important: Quantities are for guidance and should be checked by a professional before ordering. Manufacturer instructions – joint width, adhesive – take precedence.
