Timber modelling with cut lists

Beams, logs, battens and boards – with a click

With WoodGenius Pro you draw timber members the way you draw lines in SketchUp: pick the cross section from the library, type the length, and adjoining members meet in a mitre. The finished model becomes a cut list with species, cubic metres, weight and price.

Planned features

This is what we are planning for the first release. Details may still change during development and testing.

Standard size library

Beams, planed and chamfered KVH and glulam, battens, boards and planks, decking boards, round posts, logs and half logs. North American lumber is listed by nominal size (2×4, 2×6…) and modelled at its actual size. Custom sizes, chamfers included, can be entered and saved.

Draw by clicking or from edges

Draw in a chain, as with the Line tool: adjoining members meet in a mitre or at a right angle. Members can also follow selected edges, arcs and faces; an arc can become a single bent, laminated member.

Alignment and end cuts

Nine-point alignment decides which point of the cross section runs along the line. Ends can be square, angled (mitre and bevel angle, up to 75°) or cut to a plane.

Live editing, extending, splitting

Change the cross section, length, ends and species of the selected members live. Extend several ends at once by the same distance, to the same length or to a common plane, and split a member in two with a click.

Logs and custom profiles

Logs taper from butt to top diameter and can be oval and naturally curved. A drawn face – a moulding, a tongue-and-groove board – becomes a custom cross section in the library.

Cut list and price

Item number, cut length, cutting angles, running metres, surface area, cubic metres, weight and price, totalled by species and cross section. Net, VAT and gross totals in EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, HUF, RON or a currency of your own, saved to Excel or CSV. Twelve built-in species with grain-aligned textures, and you can add your own.

Later development rounds

  • Assembly tool: fences, railings, balustrades, shelves or furniture from one drawn sample, in a frame, a box or along a line
  • Timber joints such as half-laps and mortise-and-tenon
  • Licence key and free 14-day trial with the commercial release

Important: WoodGenius Pro is a modelling and take-off tool; it does not do structural design.

In the meantime

RoofGenius Pro and SolarGenius Pro are available now, each with a free 14-day trial.
